LSAT/LSDAS Checklist
The following checklist broadly illustrates the sequence of events in the law school application process. You are responsible for monitoring your file. (You can obtain your up-to-date file status online.)
- Prepare for the LSAT. (Download a free sample test or purchase official LSAT prep books from LSAC.)
- Research law schools and compose a schedule of application deadlines. (Use the ABA-LSAC Official Guide to ABA-Approved Law Schools or register for law school forums.)
- Register for the LSAT and LSDAS. Register for the LSAT and LSDAS online.
- You need not register for the LSDAS at the same time you register for the LSAT; however, register as soon as possible before your first law school application deadline.
- Many law schools require that the LSAT be taken by December for admission the following fall. However, taking the test earlier—in June or October—is often advised.
- Test date or location changes can be made easily online.
- Obtain your LSAT Admission Ticket (online or by mail).
- Have registrars send your official transcripts to LSAC. You can print out prefilled forms from your LSAC online account.
- Allow two weeks from the time of receipt for us to process your domestic or Canadian transcripts. Foreign transcripts require additional processing time.
- Ask recommenders to write letters and to send them to LSAC or directly to the law schools (as specified by each school). Prefilled LOR request forms can be printed from your LSAC online account.
- Allow two weeks from the time of receipt for us to process your letters of recommendation.
- Take the LSAT.
- Obtain your LSAT score by e-mail and view your answer sheet, score conversion table, and test book (for disclosed tests only) online. (E-mail score reporting is free for LSAC online account holders.)
- View your Master Law School Report online once all undergraduate transcripts have been summarized (for US law schools only).
- Apply to law schools electronically via LSAC (for US law schools only). Schools will then request your LSDAS report from LSAC.
- Order LSAC Reports online (for US law schools only). You will be prompted to order a report each time you submit an electronic application for transmission.
- Use your LSAC online account to verify that your reports were sent to the law schools to which you applied—or by mail on the Activity Update Report.
- Check your file status online or receive LSAC Activity Updates each month that activity occurs in your file. Check the status of your file online.
NOTE: A one-time $25 fee will be charged to LSAC online account holders who still wish to receive paper copies of LSAC documents.
